Sport Nationals

Post by Liam »

Hope to see lots of you at Seasalter today or tomorrow. Looks like a decent breeze forecast.

The next event after that is the Sport Nationals at Instow on 10th - 12th June.

The Notice of Race and entry form are here: http://www.sprint15.com/events/EMS/event.php?id=135

There is half price entry for first time Sport Nationals sailors and the full entry fee is only £50 for three days' racing including the dinner. The sun always shines at Instow when we are there.

So who is coming to race around with me and Liam and watch Erling receive his mystery prize. Looks like it might blow a bit which is good

Bring your bikes.

The tetra-ennial bicycle pub-crawl/cream tea expedition should be resurrected.

I hope and trust the bar will be open Thursday night. Paul G and myself hope to be there by 9pm and we will be thirsty.

By the way I will buy a drink to the person who makes the best suggestion via this post for the reason Erling will get a prize. Obviously I would hate for Liam to win this by default.

Good to see the photo of 525 still looking good (and obviously going well).
It was my first Dart 15 in 1988.
Amazing how these boats just keep going :D :D :D :D

Please ignore the Pro-Am results on the web site. Erling has fiddled it differently to how the web site has calculated it.

Hi Liam,

Technical content ahead for the non techies! ;)

That happens a lot so I ended up unchecking the box in the admin for that sub comp for most of the last nationals, as the results at the event against the site were completely different. The website uses the formula that Bob and I agreed to use to work out the Pro-Am but this can be viewed as unfair.

The rules that the website and hence database are using are:

1) They have sailed both the first two races. (i.e they are present at the event and sailing it avoids matching a pro with someone who has entered but isn't there ;), but is unfair on the people who retired them. The old sprint 15 scoring didn't allow for differentiation between the two groups of people )

2) The pro and ams are then matched by taking the person in first and matching them with the last place given rule 1 and so on. If there is an odd one out in the middle then that's life and they aren't in the pro-am comp ;).

Nick and Erling worked out the pro-am differently so you'll need to re-visit with Erling and thrash out a new formula. I suspect if you have people who retired either of the first two races then they should be included, this is easier to detect now the events are using RYA scoring rather than the old Sprint 15 Scoring method. This is easy to do by modifying the SQL query that selects people for Rule 1 above.

Thank you Martin,

I'm not sure you could call what Erling was using a "formula".
