A brief report of some highlights from Eurocat 2019

It is with great sadness that we have learned of Erling's death.

Erling was a much loved member and a stalwart of our community for many, many years and who played a pivotal role both at club level and nationally to raise the profile of catamaran sailing and the Sprint 15 in particular.

22 competitors took part in the first 2019 Sprint 15 Summer TT at Marconi SC on 6th and 7th April.  We were also pleased to welcome back Nigel and Fiona Denchfield as guest Races Officers for the event.

Saturday dawned with a decent breeze, albeit with very murky weather conditions – but very welcome after the very strong winds experienced this winter.

 The Chris Black Sprint 15 Icicle Winter Event at Grafham

The Grafham Sprint 15 Icicle traveller event took place on 17 March in a force 4-6 Westerly wind which was the residue of Storm Gareth. Seven travellers joined 3 locals for an exciting days racing in which many practised their capsize drill.

Sunday 24th February saw the third Sprint 15 Winter 2018/19 TT take place at Rutland.  The previous TT took place in freezing conditions, under the threat of heavy snow fall and with strong gusty winds.  Three weeks later, the sun was out, the temperatures were well into double digits and the wind forecast was very light – so at least we still had one aspect of the weather to complain about.

Paul Grattage wins the Winter Series with a clean sheet at Thorpe Bay

Top four positions all had the same number of points in closely fought regatta at Draycote.

Twenty-three boats sailing in a decent breeze around Stewartby Water.  Paul Grattage won the event with three bullets.

2018/2019 winter offer on new boat sales from Windsport

28 Sprint 15s took part in the Inland Championships at the Grafham Cat Open which happily (after the storms of last year) took place on a sunny weekend in a force 2-3 light Southerly breeze. Marconi fielded a strong team of 9 boats, there were 4 boats from Grafham and both Shanklin and Thorpe Bay fielded teams of 3.
